The Decline and Fall of Evangelicalism

A couple of weeks ago, while surfing through Christian blogs, I came across this story of Philip Yancey scheduled to speak at the Gay Christian Network Conference in 2011.

Here are Ingrid Schlueter’s comments:

Evangelicals once prided themselves that they were not like those small-minded fundamentalists who erected walls around their beliefs and stuck to the Bible. Evangelicals were different, they claimed, because they believed in lowering the drawbridge into the culture so that the church could intermingle. Well, all these years later, evangelicalism is indistinguishable from the culture around it, this story being a case in point. That’s because the lowered drawbridge of evangelicalism wasn’t sending out soldiers of Christ intent on evangelizing the lost. It was sending traffic from the world’s culture straight into the heart of the church. Traffic goes both ways on a drawbridge, and nobody bothered to stand watch at evangelicalism’s gate.

There have been many who have written about the effects on the modern church of “seeker-sensitive” Christianity – most notably Chuck Swindoll in his book The Church Awakening and John MacArthur’s Ashamed of the Gospel. Charles Spurgeon foresaw it coming over one hundred years ago when he spoke of the “down-grade controversy.”  Modern day evangelicalism has now arrived in full apostasy mode.

Two years ago, the Lakeland Revival with Todd Bentley brought crystal clarity to millions of charismatics who had put up with exaggeration and plain lying in church for so long they hardly recognized it any more. Many, myself included, could no longer tolerate the charlatanism and blatant sin that paraded itself nightly on God-TV.  Every single “prophet” who spoke over Todd Bentley during his ordination was proved false beyond a shadow of a doubt when his sin was revealed a few weeks later.

Now we are watching mainstream evangelicals fall – one by one – Philip Yancey refusing to call homosexuality a sin should be shocking but somehow after all we’ve seen the last few years we only nod our heads and say “there’s another to add to the dust heap of once faithful Christians.”

If bible prophecy is true (and it is) we are watching the final great apostasy of the Church before the appearance of the Antichrist.

(3) Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction,
