My daily reading today was 1 Kings 23-25 which tells of King Josiah’s reforms following his personal revival upon hearing the word of God read aloud.
2Ki 23:2-3 ESV
(2) And the king went up to the house of the LORD, and with him all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem and the priests and the prophets, all the people, both small and great. And he read in their hearing all the words of the Book of the Covenant that had been found in the house of the LORD.
(3) And the king stood by the pillar and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD and to keep his commandments and his testimonies and his statutes with all his heart and all his soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people joined in the covenant.
What follows in chapter 23 is a description of all the various idols and abominations found in Judah and the southern parts of Israel. Asherah, which were wooden poles with the image of Asheroth a female goddess of the Phoenicians, Baal, Molech (the god of the Ammonites who demanded child sacrifices) and Chemosh the god of the Moabites.
Also found were horse stables near the Temple for use in sun worship as well as booths or tents for prostitution in the courtyard of the Temple! The curse of this idolatry was so bad that even with the reforms of Josiah, within a few short years God let the Babylonians ransack Jerusalem in His wrath.
While all the above is a great lesson in bible history, its application for today is on target. Many are crying out today for revival or even claiming that revival has come yet no reforms have been made concerning the idolatry within the camp.
Those who are truly revived by the word of God should rise up and destroy the false worship and idolatry within the Church today. The New Age teaching of portals, orbs, false angels, feathers and gold dust must go. Mysticism as practiced by the catholic church has no place in God’s house. The world’s philosophy known as postmodernism and its adherents known as the Emerging Church need to be rooted out and their dust sprinkled on the unclean cemeteries.
It is no longer enough to agree that such things are an abomination to God – we must be like King Josiah and destroy the false worship that is prevalent in our evangelical midst. God hates evil and so must we.
